Westons
Rose Veal Westons Rose Veal calves are
reared to high welfare standards and are farm assured under the Farm Assured British
Beef and Lamb (FABBL) scheme. This means
that in many aspects they are reared to a higher welfare standard than is required
by law. We rear our Jersey and Guernsey bull calves to produce lean Rose Veal
instead of them having to suffer the same fate as many other dairy bull calves
by being shot at birth. The calves are
reared in small groups with ample space and bedded on straw. They are given a
balanced diet that contains all the nutrients they need and are fed milk twice
a day. This produces rose veal (pink meat), not white veal created purposely by
an unbalanced and deficient diet.
The
calves are reared to the age of about 6 months - the same age as many lambs. Then
the meat is allowed to hang for roughly 2 weeks before being prepared by the butcher. |
