WELCOME TO WESTONS ROSE VEAL FARM
Westons Rose Veal are a family farm at Bampton near Tiverton in Devon where we run a dairy herd of Jersey cows. For several years now we have reared the Jersey bull calves to produce Rose Veal.
Our Rose Veal calves are reared to high welfare standards and are farm assured under the Red Tractor scheme. As well as this we have been awarded the Good Calf Commendation by the Compassion in World Farming. This means that in many aspects they are reared to a higher welfare standard than is required by law. We rear our Jersey and Guernsey bull calves to produce lean Rose Veal, instead of having them suffer the same fate as many other dairy bull calves by being shot at birth.
The calves are reared outdoors in the summer months groups of 24 from 3 weeks of age then reared indoors during the winter when ground becomes wet in groups of 12 with ample space and bedded on straw. Thus they are Free Range. They are given a balanced diet that contains all the nutrients they need and are fed milk twice a day. This produces rose veal (pink meat), not white veal created purposely by an unbalanced and deficient diet.
The calves are reared to the age of about 6 months – the same age as many lambs. Then the meat is allowed to hang for roughly two weeks.
We deliver throughout the South West, London and to other towns and cities in England and Wales. Our rose veal is purchased by restaurants, hotels and also can now be purchased by the general public on our online shop.
