It’s been a rollercoaster ride for many small businesses over the last couple of months and it’s fair to say we’ve had to adapt as quickly as anyone.
Farmers Weekly – We had a great article about our Rose veal in Farmers Weekly covering the basics of how we went from being a flying herd to breeding our own replacements and the creation of an unwanted boom in dairy bull calves. We adapted then and with the support of many others along the way are adapting again now.
Having read the article a few times and getting feedback from others it made me realise what a great business we have and how much we love what we do. I’m a proud veal farmer and realised we can work a way to sell what we need to sell to get through these changeable times.
Foodchain app – Over the last year or so the app connected us to a growing network of chefs and restaurants throughout the UK. When coronavirus hit and everything was forced to close we still had a huge supply of Rose veal avaialble. After the initial panic stage of what are we going to do it was clear we had to continue providing our fantastic Rose veal to consumers around the UK. Households up an down the country could buy from us but how do we make them aware of us if they have only eaten our meat in restaurants and hotels before?
Foodchain have decided to open up their platform to households that need to get food delivered so that was an opportunity for us to sell through that market.
Social media – Outside of Foodchain we have social media accounts that enables us to connect with a loyal base of customers. We’d hope to see this grow so we can widen our audience.
Online shop – We continue to sell from our online shop where we have run offers (reduced prices) and also lowered the free postage amount to look to sell more online. If you’re reading this blog please help us by sharing a link to our website to your friends and family.
